Now we are just one step away from making sentences. iam teaching you this because this is the rule which most of the students miss and this is very important that is changing the verb means either put
(s , es, ies) at the end of the verb only when the subject is third person singular
Just for your better understanding iam explaining it in two parts
- What Is Third Person Singular?
- Verb Rule
By the word we can understand that singular means single (1) (one thing) and in present tense - When we say
(He , She , it) so it means
He - means (One Male / Boy) ,
She - means (One Women / Girl) ,
It - means (One none-living thing like - Computer , Mobile , Car )
Naveed - means (One person it does not means more than one) ok!!!
So whenever we have these words as a subject in our sentence we call them Third Person Singular
For Example: "He plays cricket" - In this sentence the subject is "He -> Is A Subject" therefore is a third person singular
now we know what is third person singular so let's learn the rules of verbs We have three(3) rules for verb in Present Indefinite Tense
- Verb Ends With (Y) then we add ("ies")
- Verb Ends With (-O, -S, -X, -CH, -SH) Add ("es")
- Verb Ends With Not From Any Of The Above Then We Add (S)
Verb Ends With (y) Then We Add ("ies")
Very simple - First we will see is the subject in our sentence is third person singular (Means - He , She ,it)
or anyname then the next step is we see verb is ending with which character if you find the last charater y then
this rule will be appiled that is (replace y with ies)
For Example:He Try will become - "He Tires"
below image is showing exactly what iam saying
Verb Ends With (-O, -S, -X, -CH, -SH) Then We Add ("es")
In the first condtion we learnt if the verb ends with y then we will add ies .
in this second condition we see if the verb is ending with (-O, -S, -X, -CH, -SH) then
we replace it with "es"
For Example:He go - [Will become] - He goes because the last character in this verb(Go) is (O)
and it matches our second condition which says any verb ends with (O) (+) Add es
Thefore - [ He go - became - He goes] you can also understand it by seeing this below image
Verb Ends With Not With Any of the Condition - Then We Add ("es")
Till now we have seen if ends with this then do this but what if the verb does not end
with any of the condition and still is third person singular? - To slove this problem
in english grammar gives us a solution which is - just add (S) Simple
For Example:He Come - [Will become] - He Comes because this is the third condition
which says if the "Subject is third person singular And the verb is not ending with any condition then just add (S) at the end "
